Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)

Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Scouts BSA Troops in order to be considered "trained".

When:  5:00 p.m. Friday April 19th through 3:00 p.m. Saturday April 20, 2019

Why: Trained Leaders are one of the keys to youth staying in Scouting!  Trained Leaders are able to see how skills benefit Scouts.  Trained Leaders just might have more fun (because they know more than they used to)

What: Campfire program planning, campsite selection and shelters, map and compass, knots and lashing, lightweight stoves, Dutch Oven cooking, outdoor tools (What you need to help Scouts get to First Class rank).
