Welcome to the Boy Scouts of America: the nation’s foremost character development organization for youth!
Have you joined a Scouting unit? If not, beascout.org or the list below is where you can find a nearby Cub Scout pack and apply online. Call 541-485-4433 anytime you have questions about Scouts, handbooks, uniforms or other getting-started questions.
Cub Scout packs are for boy & girls grades K-5. Some packs are boy-only and others have both boy and girl groups (called Family Scouting). Each grade belongs to a small den: Kindergartners are Lions, 1st graders are Tigers, 2nd graders are Wolves, 3rd graders are Bears, and 4th & 5th graders are called Webelos.
Boy Scout troops are for boys grades 6-12, and Venturing crews are for boys and girls 14-20.
How much does it cost?
Generally, a family should budget about $100 to get a Scout started, but this is broken into a few parts and does not need to be done all at once. Each unit has their own fundraisers to help Scouts fund their year so most costs become perpetually covered as the family stays involved. Some financial assistance is available for those in need.
$36 annual membership fee (prorated to $3 per month)
$40-60 uniform basics (shirt, patches, etc). This can last a few years and varies in costs depending on what the unit wears.
Some units charge their own dues each year to cover monthly activities.
When are meetings?
Each group meets on a different weeknight depending on your area. There are weekly small meetings at homes and monthly large meetings at schools and churches where awards are given.
