Oregon Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America serves more than 5,000 youth, supported by over 2,500 adults in over 400 units. It includes 7 districts in 6 counties covering Western Oregon including communities like Eugene, Springfield, Corvallis, Roseburg, and Coos Bay. Scouts are also served along the Oregon Coast is covered from Lincoln City to Brookings.

#1 Despite reports to the contrary ...
The organization name is NOT changing. 

The Boy Scouts of America will continue to provide leadership and character development programs for boys and girls ages 5-20. Truth: As seen in this chart, one of the five programs offered, Boy Scouts, will be changing to Scouts BSA.  Fun fact: Girls have been a part of Scouting for decades – since ’98 in Venturing and since the 70s in Exploring. Girls will NOT be joining your boy’s Scout troop. 

Can girls form their own troops next year? Yes. Will Scout troops still be a place for boys? Yes. Can a boy troop and a girl troop share the same charter or leadership if needed? Yes. It’s all explained here.

The LDS Church will be using their own program in 2020, but has asked for everyone to “remain a fully engaged partner in Scouting” through Dec. 31, 2019. 

“All youth, families and leaders are encouraged to continue their active participation and financial support of Scouting,” the LDS church said in its joint statement with the BSA. So for now, go enjoy summer camp, earn awards, learn values, charter for next year, and do it all again! It will work out. Oregon Trail Council is 30% LDS Scouts and fully committed to helping each and every boy who would like to continue his path to Eagle by helping connect them with a local pack or troop ready to welcome these new “all-in” Scouts.
